Upcoming Election
A great article...
Some of you won't be surprised to see that it was written by Phyllis Schafly, one of my personal heroes. Here's the link if you are interested:

Step 1
Blake sits on the potty chair.....and smiles!
I definitely don't have my hopes up--in fact, I would be THRILLED if he potty-trained by this time next year. Nevertheless, this is a big milestone since he was kind of afraid of it for a while--he wasn't too sure about that pee-guard thing and frankly (after three girls) neither was I. But we have conquered it and are ready for....
Step 2: Some action while on the chair!!! Which will certainly warrant a big celebration including my favorite bribe, CANDY!

Reno Trip I
Last Thursday the kids and I went down to Reno, Nevada for a long weekend. Brett is working on a groundwater treatment plant in Hawthorne, about 2 hours south of Reno. We spent one nightat his little apartment and also visited his jobsite, then spent the rest of the weekend in Reno.
Blake has now become obsessed with planes. He would literally jump up and down while watching the planes take off and land at the airport. He loved being in the plane and feeling the rush of takeoff and the turbulance. We bought him a six-inch F-16 while there and now he takes it everywhere with him, even to bed. It's so cute....and so boyish. The girls enjoyed flying too (they were pretty young the last time) but have never had that kind of intense fascination.
Sabrina and Joslyn's obsession on this trip would have to be a toss-up between the Disney Channel (we don't have cable) and the pool at the hotel. They love all those pre-teen Disney shows like Hannah Montana and Witches of Waverly Place. I am not crazy about them, but once or twice a year I guess it's okay. As for the pool, they spent 2 1/2 hours there one afternoon, with nothing but each other to play with. They like to pretend they are in the Olympics and race using different strokes and different rules. Thank you, Micheal Phelps.
Erin was probably the worst traveler. She wanted to go home most of the time. She did like the other Disney shows, Mickey Mouse Club, etc and the pool. Her attention span for most other things was pretty short, even for a 3-year-old. She definitely didn't like eating at restaurants. She still takes naps somedays so I think she was just overtired.
All in all, a good time--it was good for the kids to see where their dad disapears to every Monday morning.
Virginia City
We spent one day in Virginia City, an old mining town (aka tourist trap). Here are pictures of our trolley and train ride around town. Other highlights were the rock shop (geodes, etc) and the old-fashioned candy store.
Reno Trip II
We rarely eat out as a family, but by the end of this trip, I think we were actually tired of it. This was taken by our kind and patient waiter at TGIFridays.
We spent a lot of time in the hotel room, watching Conference and the Disney Channel (sometimes at the same time, since we could only watch Conference online). The kids were having a great time in the big bed, playing orphans or something and I snapped this cute picture. I love it when they all play together.
We miraculously found the temple...I had looked it up on mapquest, but then didn't print out the directions so I only knew the general area of town that it was in. The Spirit must have been guiding Brett as he drove. I think it looks a lot like the Spokane temple, although the surroundings are different.
